In my research I presenting my work to the class and getting responses to my choice of song and their thoughts on it's ability to be explored as a music video. The class conducted an analysis of the song reviewing there own ideas for the song an how they believed it could be explored. Through this i was presented with a variety of ideas and concepts in which fitted my video choice. After looking over these possible choices and comparing them to my own was I able to solidify my base idea with the help of this information.
Ideas & concepts
The majority of the ideas presented suggested an acoustic guitar and the idea of playing outside in a sunny place. Although there was changes between ideas the ideas had common factors such as it being in the sun, outside with a girl involved along with different settings and concepts of what to do in these places.
This i found to be similar to the ideas I had when originally consulting this song.
However after looking over the suggestions my own ideas have been changed in such a way.
The first of the song evaluations proposed ideas of sweeping shots and almost an instigram like effect to the camera along with a very literal representation of the lyrics (Classic love story). Although with my concept i am using the idea of the love song my true interest in this review was the mention of effects, i also saw them to be very necessary for befitting the song an creating a unique feel so a concept which can be said is overdone. Therefor I've decided to use the artifact effect found in final cut pro to achieve this.
The second idea found interesting suggested using concept over narrative and a very bright lighting style. This caught my attention due to the possibilities involved using concept however in the end i compromised with my piece due to the possibilities of using narrative and decided on the set theme of journey/ life and to fit the narrative around this concept.
Another suggestion entailed a lot of shots of happy faces an people smiling alongside a plot line or narrative of a boyfriend looking for a girlfriend an vica-versa As it leeds to a stereotypical happy ending as the boy gets the girl. I enjoyed this idea however when looking over the other suggestions there was an idea of a wedding, but not the normal 'happily ever after' wedding but the main character crashing the wedding an stealing back his love.
This made me think, and review my song again and led me into making the wedding the main event in my video with a build up and happy ending following.
On the same evaluation there was a mention of the boy following the girl he loves on the way to the wedding. I didn't find this fit with my idea for a video an therefore rejected it but I still considered the concept even though i found it to not fit the image i was intending to go for an it can be seen as desperate which is not the image i wanted my 'hero' to give.
Finally i came to the last of the opinions and observations as the majority of the ideas were similar to each other due to the theme of the music video being so defined to one concept!
