Green Day -Redundant

[Recorded in 1998]
Green Day's -Redundant is an example of a one shot video, this is a video which is recorded in a single take. The music video focuses around the three band members of the band performing in the middle of a home. Throughout the video there is a single static frontal camera angle.

In the background of the video we see a set of ‘family members’ moving around minding there own business whilst repeating the same action. Through out the video we see a growth in characters as the number of family members rises giving birth to a video of organized chaos. This video it meant to show how we need a routine and how when this is broken irrational actions take place such as the first an so called lead character in the performance’s routine is broken it’s followed by a scream.

Mark Koher who also directed the whole of Green days International Super videos directed the music video, He also helped direct The Nightmare Before Christmas and Liquid Television a small 3-episode TV show. He’s a relatively unknown director, and due to the unsuccessful nature of the album didn't take off into demand.

Goodwins principles of music fit into this video as it demonstrates the characteristics of a rock video *band or stage performance with a lot of shots of the lead singer. Although in this video the camera is stationary and the videos set inside a house it’s possible see the house as a stage due to the set up and the camera is focused on the lead singer throughout the whole video showing the demand characteristics of the record label.
