In when looking for inspiration i found this video. It is of a past student piece of work using stop motion. As i'm using stop motion in my piece i felt this would be a helpful piece to analyze.
This video also breaks the stereotypes set in place by Goodwin. It displays Nether the artist or band however a drawn guitar is shown at the start.
One of the principles of Goodwin this video display is a link between lyrics and visuals. As this music video is created in the narrative style, it relies on this. The most enjoyable part of this video however i found to be the calender. It was creatively used to display the passing of months and years. This symbolic gesture is something i am hoping to show in my video.
The main appeal to me behind this video however was it's simplicity. The simplistic style of this videos both setting and recording brings life to the piece. This is what I aimed for in my stop motion, although I feel I've over complected with the use of speech. Unlike in this video where subtle signs are used to fill in the blanks.
Another part of the video that appealed to me was At the very end when the stop motion traverses into video. this interested me as the directer signs the last word off giving it a personal feel. I also felt it make the stop motion seem more realistic by binding it to reality using film.
Following this is a simple closing of the note book, this simple action of closing the note book. I found this to be a great symbolic gesture almost telling the viewers that the story is over .
Although this music video doesn't follow the idea i want it still gives example as to the ways to use stop motion. It also follows the same genre as my music video an therefor gives off the feel i'm hoping to achieve though my film. this analysis will be helpful in clarifying my way of using stop motion on paper without a jumpy low frame rate. whilst telling a rounded story.
